Yes!  And there is an endless of very wealthy people making money online.  Many, many of these people are millionaires and getting richer.  The model for success is actually pretty simple.  Executing the model is generally the more difficult part.  So what is the model?

First, the formula for failure is to think up your own idea and try to market it.  If you do this you will almost be guaranteed to fail.  It could be that you have a good idea and that there is demand for it, but this is generally the exception, not the rule.  On the other hand, the model for success consists of two basic parts; (1) find a product or service that is in demand and (2) sell it to that market.

So, how do you find a product that is in demand?  Simple, just type in the product or keyword into the Google keyword tool.  The results will tell you whether there are any people searching for the item.  If you get a large number, say over 100,000 or more (after setting the word match to “exact”) you have found an item that is in demand.  You can test your ideas this way as well.  If there is great demand for your product then you may have a potential candidate.  But you cannot skip this step or you will be wasting a lot of time.

Next you need to get a website and create a landing page that provides sales for your product.  The landing page could be a single page website (although Google rewards those with sites having 30 pages or more) or a blog such as Wordpress.  Once you have your website you would normally promote it in an effort to get ranked.  However, here is where the average marketer will fall down.

If the product your promoting (and therefore the keyword) has excessive competition you will never rank your site adequately.  Hence, you must pick your product/keyword such that the sites that are ranking on the first page are, by and large, weak sites.  You can assess this by noting Googles Page Rank (PR) score.  The weaker the site the better your chance at ranking higher.

Lastly, you sell to the market place that wants your product.  Promoting your site will allow you to be ranked well.  Once this takes place you will start to notice a lot more traffic.  More traffic means more sales.

Becoming an affiliate can provide for a very comfortable living.  But what is an affiliate?  Simply anyone who chooses to promote other peoples products.  You can visit many websites and find that they have affiliate programs.  If you sign up for these affiliate marketing programs and refer a customer and the customer buys the product you get a commission.

But how do you online affiliate marketing?  Well, there are a number of ways.  These include, social bookmarking, paid advertising, paid newsletters, article marketing, Adwords and others.  One such program, the Clickbank Code, provides insight into how to accompish this.  They also explain why promoting affiliate products with adwords can be a losing proposition.  People are not marketing in a manner that will allow them to make money.  They are using the same old tricks they have always used and not getting results just as before.  The Clickbank Code explains in detail how to avoid this.

The author of the Clickbank Code even provided his system to struggling newbies as a test and found that some of them were able to make a profit in a few hours.  If you are familiar with Clickbank then you know that the term high gravity is affiliated with more sales.  However, this program avoids the trap of selecting products with high gravity as this is viewed as the same old way of selecting products.  Instead, a formula is provided that places emphasis on sales conversion.  In addition, methods for getting targeted traffic are revealed.  Relevant targeted traffic is a key to any profiting venture.

If your going to promote affiliate products you will also need to know something about a landing page.  Landing pages represent where your customers end up after clicking on an ad (such as in adwords).  If the landing page is poor then it will be tough to convert, i.e., make a sale.  This is true even if you click through rate is high.  This simply means that many people click on ad to get to your landing page.  But if the landing page is poor, then the customer will buy nothing.

Interestingly, the program discusses why long tail keywords can strangle profits. Long tail key words are phrases that are less competitive.  The thinking is that these phrases should be easier to rank for because they are less competitive.  The program makes the author about $50,000 each month!

The process of researching niche keywords is not new but can be extremely profitable.  For this opportunity in making money online your going to need a website and a domain but, hey, don’t fret.  Setting this up is like falling off a log.  I will tell you how to do that in minute, but first lets discuss the idea further.

If you research the term “credit card”, you will find that as of this writing there were about 673,000 people searching for that term.  In other words, the term “credit card” is popular.  Indeed, if you do a Google search for “credit card” you will find more than 200 million web sites all competing for that term.

The point here is that the keyword credit card is not a good “under the radar” niche keyword.  However, if you were to type in “credit card apr”, implying an interest in credit cards with a stipulated annual percentage rate, you will find that it is less popular.  It is likely that you can get ranked higher by Google if your keyword is not so competitve.  You must research keywords in conjunction with their ability to be ranked by Google.  If you can do this the profit will follow as the traffic will be substantial.  Here is all you need to do.

If you use a program like “Keyword Elite 2.0“, you can research a number of keywords and assess them for popularity and competitiveness.  Once you have found several that make good candidates simply find a domain registrar and register the domain name.  Ideally, the domain name has your keyword in it.

Secondly, find a domain host for your domain name.  Generally, the domain registrar will likely have the ability to host as well.  In addition, many of them have simple tools that allow you to create your own website using their templates.  You can create a website in about an hour.  Once this is accomplished you can write or post an article on it or provide a product.  Make sure you write enough to provide at least thirty pages.  At about thirty or so pages it will be easier to get  a better Google ranking.

The last step is simply to promote your site.  You can do this via article marketing, free classifieds or blogs such as Squindoo or Hub.  Be consistent as this process takes several months.  But if your research was accurate you should eventually achieve a first page ranking.  If you sign up for adsense you will have advertisements placed on your website automatically by Google.  Every time some one clicks on them you will make money.
